MAINTENANCE WORK - SPRING

RIght after doing the grooming cuttings, in case that the weather is above 5 C, we need to repeat the copper sulfate spraying process in order to be able to achieve a good cleaning of the plant, to eliminate the eventual pests that survived the spraying from last fall.

The branches affected by disease must be removed and destroyed by burning them to prevent spreading to other trees. After 5-10 days we have to repeat the spraying once again with a horticultural oil base mixed with fungicidal substances, depending on the method being organic or not, with the allowed substances in the period prior to bud development.

We double check each tree to see if they got affected by wild animals, mainly rabbits that chewed the young plants, passing under the fence then we have to urgently mix up a batch of suphur based horticultural ointments to stop them.

We purify the soil around the tree, we remove the materials that were protecting the young trees, if it's the case we drain away the pools of water formed after the snow melting, we try leveling these spots of the surface if the weather allows it.

We check our cuttings to see if they rooted.

Then we transplant it into a bigger pot with the pH level of purified the soil of over 6.5. This will allow for a good development and hardening of the roots and stem of the plant. We wet the plant with "starter", which has a very beneficial effect on the development of young plants.
